Considered Breaking Rules, Academic Title for K-Pop Idols is Finally Revoked - Various K-Pop idols had to swallow bitter pill after their academic title was revoked by the South Korean Minister of Education.
Dongshin University was found guilty of giving special treatment to students who were celebrities.
The various K-Pop idols who received special treatment were Gikwang, Junhyung and Doojoon HIGHLIGHT, Hyunseung BEAST, Eunkwang and Sungjae BTOB, and Choo Ga Yeol.
In the trial, the Dongshin University admitted that students from celebrities were considered to be present even though they were not in class but were participating in broadcast activities which were still recorded as attendance.
Though there are no rules for that before 2015, or any regulations that allow it to be done. So the Minister of Education decided that their presence was unacceptable.
Especially Choo Ga Yeol, who also teaches as a professor even though he doesn't have a bachelor's degree yet. His teaching and lecture schedule often collided, so he often could not attend class. Therefore he will not only lose his academic degree, but also the title of professor.
