Presenter and comedian Yoo Jae Suk has been criticized by the Chinese media for offending the referee's judgment at the Beijing Olympics.

Reported from Allkpop, Thursday (24/2/2022), Yoo Jae Suk's controversial statement was recorded on the 'Hangout with You' program. “I couldn't contain my anger that day. But a few days later, Hwang Dae Hoon won the gold medal, which gave me goosebumps,” he said.

After the words were published and spread widely on social media, the Global Times gave a statement regarding the matter.

"Yoo Jae Suk is the best comedian and television star in Korea who has a lot of fans in China, so he should not make statements that could exacerbate the conflict between the two countries," the media wrote.

Global Times management believes that a public figure's statement can be misinterpreted and politicized by people who are less able to judge the statement. So, they hope that the comedian will set an example for society, especially Yoo Jae Suk's fan club called 'Yoo Jae Suk Yooiverse' in China.

Chinese netizens also criticized Yoo Jae Suk for his comments and claimed that the referee's judgment at the Olympics was fair and impartial.

The hot issue arose during the semifinal moment of the men's 1,000-meter run at the Beijing Olympics. Two Korean athletes Hwang Dae Heon and Lee Jeon Seo were disqualified for misconduct during the race, even though they finished first and second. This disqualification issue has led to criticism of the referee's 'biased judgment'.

Korean netizens also sided with Yoo Jae Suk. "Don't touch Yoo Jae Suk," wrote one of them.
