Aori Ramen Seungri Franchise Threatened to Bankrupt Because of the Burning Sun Scandal - The Sun Burning Scandal That Involves Seungri Affects Aori Ramen's Sales.
"Newsdesk" MBC is again discussing the Burning Sun scandal which is drawing public attention from South Korea and even the world. This time the news program revealed the scandalous influence on the business of Aori Ramen, the franchise restaurant that was formerly headed by Seungri.
In a broadcast aired on Monday (25/3), MBC interviewed the owners of the Aori Ramen restaurant, commonly called the "Seungri ramen restaurant" to listen to their stories. According to reports, the Burning Sun controversy directly affected Aori Ramen. It was revealed that daily sales fell more than 70 percent.
There are 44 Aori Ramen restaurants in Korea, and seven stores spread internationally. When appearing on variety shows last year, Seungri revealed that annual sales were estimated at 26 billion Won (around Rp 325.9 billion). "If I make a problem, many people won't be able to receive their monthly salary, so I feel a huge sense of responsibility," Seungri said. After the first report on Burning Sun was released at the end of January, restaurant revenues began to plummet.
"It's like a dream. Something unimaginable has happened. The inside of my mouth is full of wounds. I can't even talk to the staff," said one restaurant owner.
"Newsdesk" compares sales records of franchise stores through credit card companies. They found that sales declined 23 percent from January to February, following allegations of police corruption and sexual assault on Burning Sun night clubs, and 47 percent in March. When a report about Jung Joon Young was involved in an illegal sex video case revealed, his sales dropped 74 percent.
Restaurant owners revealed that many made announcements to state that their restaurant had nothing to do with Seungri, except for a number of restaurants which were opened in the early stages of franchising.
Meanwhile, company headquarters Aori Ramen said on March 7 that they would return tens of millions of won in franchise fees to restaurant owners. But the company has not taken further steps.
